I had a crazily busy weekend, so I’ll make it short and very sweet! Some awesome creations came out this week, and here’s a few.
Larry Lars put together this compilation of his Star Wars cubedudes. The creative use of various parts for the details on these guys just blows me away! CubeDudes also made an appearance at ComicCon last week, although these were limited edition sets sold by creator Angus McClane.
Last week in LEGO

This is the first of (hopefully) many Monday afternoon posts summing up some of the best LEGO creations built in the last week. Use them for inspiration, motivation, or just something neat to look at.
First up we’ve got an awesome Space Shuttle model by TWINLUG member Tom Anderson. It’s scaled to be half the size of the new official LEGO 10213 Shuttle Adventure
Our second model of the week is this shot of the 2010 lineup of custom building kits from Brickmania (Daniel Siskind). Siskind designs and sells custom kits for many WWII and modern military vehicles, which are all available for purchase on his website. I’ve never bought one myself, but his skill at making accurate models of vehicles with so many complex angles and shapes has always interested me. Check out his website for dozens of other awesome builds.

My Lego history

Lego was a HUGE part of my childhood. I can still remember the first sets I got, especially the Rescue-1 Helicopter and the Futron Auxiliary Patroller. In fact, I have both those sets built and sitting on my desk today. My mom made damn sure I never sold or gave away my childhood Lego, and while I was never really tempted to try, I am still thankful she did.
I even had a special Lego suitcase thing to bring by bricks on the road with me, and instead of being grounded or sent to my room, I was frequently punished by being forbidden to play with my Lego.

This is an excellent TED presentation by a slighty crazy seeming Hillel Cooperman. It does an excellent job of summarizing the adult lego experience.

I still play with Lego. I’m 25. And I am not the only one. While I my Lego hobby ocassionally gets me some good natured ribbing from friends, and the nickname Legomaniac from my paintball buddies, for the most part people seem to think it’s actually pretty neat (this includes women, somewhat surprisingly).
Anyone who can’t get past the preconception of Lego as something that is just for kids needs to check out the Brothers Brick or some of the Lego creations posted on Flickr every day.
